National Council on Disability To Release Report
on the Americans with Disabilities Act
WASHINGTON--The National Council on Disability (NCD)
will conduct a news conference to highlight the release of its report
Promises to Keep: A Decade of Federal Enforcement of the Americans
with Disabilities Act on Tuesday, June 27, at 10:00 a.m., at the
National Press Club, Holeman Lounge, 529 14th Street, NW, Washington,
DC. This report will be the third in NCD's "Unequal Protection Under
Law" series of independent analyses of federal civil rights enforcement
for Americans with disabilities.
Promises to Keep focuses on federal enforcement of
the Americans with Disabilities Act in its first ten years, including
compliance monitoring, complaint processing, litigation, technical
assistance, and public information activities. The federal agencies
covered in this report include the Department of Justice, the Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission, the Department of Transportation,
and the Federal Communications Commission.
To follow-up on the findings and recommendations of
this report series, NCD is convening a meeting of experts to collaborate
on a strategic action plan for the enforcement of disability civil
rights over the next ten years. These experts have been specially
chosen for their contributions in the areas of civil and human rights,
disability advocacy, and advancing the status of people with disabilities
from diverse cultures.
This two and a half day working retreat, addressing
issues of inclusion, empowerment, and access to equal opportunity,
will take place in Washington, DC, from the afternoon of Tuesday,
June 27 through Thursday, June 29.
