National Council on Disability Nominees Confirmed
by U.S. Senate
WASHINGTON--Six of President Bush's nominees to the
National Council on Disability (NCD) were confirmed by the U.S.
Senate on September 26, 2002.
Those confirmed are:
Glenn B. Anderson, Ph.D., Little Rock, Arkansas.
Dr. Anderson is director of training at the University of Arkansas
Rehabilitation and Training Center for Persons who are Deaf or Hard
of Hearing. In addition, he is a professor in the Department of
Rehabilitation, Human Resources, and Communications Disorders. He
also serves as chair of the Board of Trustees at Gallaudet University.
Milton Aponte, Cooper City, Florida. Mr. Aponte
is a general attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice, Immigration
and Naturalization Service. He previously served as chief attorney
at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He is a
board member at the Advocacy Center for Persons with Disabilities,
Florida's federally funded protection and advocacy agency.
Barbara Gillcrist, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Mrs.
Gillcrist provides support in the accounting office at her husbands'
municipal bond office. She is a former high school teacher, who
also volunteered in the U.S. Senate campaign of Congressman George
H. W. Bush.
Graham Hill, Arlington, Virginia. Mr. Hill
is counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on Transportation
and Infrastructure. He is a veteran Hill staffer and was an advisor
for disability policy on the Bush/Cheney presidential campaign.
He also worked as a fellow in the office of Senator Phil Gramm of
Texas.
Marco Rodriguez, Elk Grove, California. Mr.
Rodriguez is a branch owner and senior financial representative
with Principal Financial Group, where he creates financial investment
strategies for individual clients and businesses. He is a member
of the Sacramento Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
David Wenzel, Scranton, Pennsylvania. Mr. Wenzel
is a decorated Vietnam veteran currently teaching a course on the
Vietnam conflict at the University of Scranton. He also serves as
a member of the Pennsylvania Vocational Rehabilitation Board of
the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. He is a former
mayor of Scranton.
