National Council on Disability to Release Foreign Policy Report on Capitol Hill

WASHINGTON-The National Council on Disability (NCD) will release its report, Foreign Policy and Disability: Legislative Strategies and Civil Rights Protections to Ensure Inclusion of People with Disabilities, at a news conference at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 9, 2003, in Room G-11, Senate Dirksen Office Building.

Congressional Briefing
A congressional briefing by NCD and the Bipartisan Disabilities Caucus will follow the news conference, from 11:00 to 12:00 p.m. in the same room.

Topics include NCD's foreign policy recommendations, such as:
* New legislation requiring access and inclusion of people with disabilities in U.S. foreign assistance activities.
* The creation of a "Disability in Development Program" at the U.S. Agency for International Development.
* The application of U.S. disability rights legislation to U.S. government programs.

The briefing will also include an update on Iraq/Afghanistan reconstruction and accessibility legislation.
