Remarks by Katie Savage

Saving Lives: Including People with Disabilities in Emergency Planning
News Conference
April 15, 2005

As I read. The National Council on Disability report. I digested its contents with a high spirit.

Two words followed my thoughts optimistic, and hope. Navigating the pages I discovered a challenge this global environment must act on instantly and connect the dots.

Yes the issues are tough to protect the outcome for everyone.

This report is important because it tells our lawmakers.

What they need to know, what they to do for the vulnerable population during and after a disaster.

Many individuals with disabilities surrender their lives too the wisdom of decisions from policies setup to safeguard their lives.

Our elected leaders must in play or take lightly the survival of all people.

Lighting is back in the bottle, but for, how long?

Like an elephant in my bath tub.

Yes, I have a disability, but I must not be disabled because of it.

I’d like to thank. The National Council on Disability for putting together a detailed and complete report.
